After a week of indifferent weather but lingering strong winds angling conditions have at times proved difficult. Heavy rain earlier in the week provided a good lift in water levels and once the water had cleared prospects improved greatly. At the White Posts and Stream Foot on the tidal beat a good number of anglers gave it their best shot at catching that so far elusive first fresh salmon of the season however it was not to be. A fresh fish was seen running the White Posts on the dropping water. Angler George Nicholson managed a sea trout kelt on Wednesday just before another rise after heavy rain throughout the Coquet valley. With good turn out's so far this season and faultless effort, Friday excelled with 16 anglers focusing on the White Posts stretch down to the Stream Foot. River conditions were good and the weather more favourable but after many hours of concerted commitment the first fish remains uncaught and the prestigious Coquet Trophy remains up for grabs.
