Competition Rules

1. The angler proven to the satisfaction of the Head Bailiff and the Trustees to have caught the first fresh salmon of the season on the River Coquet will hold the Coquet Trophy for one year and receive one year’s free permit and a replica of the Trophy to retain.

2. The anglers proven to have caught the heaviest salmon and the heaviest brown trout on any Federation water in each year will hold the Centenary Cup for such fish for one year and receive a free salmon or trout permit for one year.

3. A trophy in memory of Jim Hardy, former Federation Chairman for many years, will be awarded to the angler catching the heaviest sea trout on Federation waters, to be held for one year.

4. The angler proven to have caught the first fly fish of the season on any Federation water in each year will be awarded the Federation Shield to be held for one year along with a selection of flies presented on behalf of Federation anglers.

In accordance with the rules, all fish to be eligible for any heaviest fish competition should be accurately weighed and verified by a Bailiff or independent witness. Should this not be possible then a photo should be taken of the scales whilst the fish is weighed (in the net if practising catch and release. Deduct the weight of the net accurately to get the correct weight of the fish). Please ensure this does not cause the fish any harm or distress. It is advisable that anglers carry an accurate set of weighing scales for this purpose. Details of any fish to be entered for competition purposes, once verified, should be forwarded to the Head Bailiff.
