September Update.
In the weeks since the last update we've had several periods of wet weather which have produced fluctuating conditions on the Tyne and some welcome lifts on the Coquet which has once again produced good numbers of salmon and sea trout.
Of the catches reported recently the vast majority of them have been salmon with some superb specimens coming to the net, the stand out being a cock fish of 19 lbs 4 oz. caught on a small fly by Gordon Black. Among the many anglers who are enjoying a great season is John Jervis who had 4 salmon of 9 to 14 lbs in one evening session, and once again Dale Green and Peter Robinson have been among the fish with 4 salmon and a sea trout and 2 salmon and a sea trout respectively. George Nicholson,Tony Dunn and John Potts have also had notable catches.
For the trout anglers, we are now into the final week of the season and we hope you've all enjoyed your time on our waters. There's still time to make the most of the last few days and to land one of those superb brownies lurking in our waters.
As already mentioned, can anglers please keep clear of the banks near the Thirston Burn avulsion on our Felton Beat as they are in a precarious state. We are also aware of the large trees that have fallen into the river below the Gravels and every effort will be made to remove them but after assessment this is not possible at the present time.
Can we also take this opportunity to remind all salmon and sea trout anglers that from next Sunday it is fly fishing only and mandatory catch and release on our waters.
Tight lines.
