Please see following some information in respect of an event being held on the Tyne by the North East Fly Casting Club:
Dear Angler,
I am writing to you as Chair of the North East Fly Casting Club but primarily a keen local angler to ask for you help in publicising a free event which I hope will be of interest and enjoyment to you. On Saturday the 7th August we are holding an open day or "Back to Angling Day" where local anglers, their friends and families of all ages and abilities can come along and enjoy taking part.
The day will include:-
a range of demonstrations by very well respected fly casting instructors, free coaching opportunities from very experienced and highly qualified fly casting coaches (both double and single handed), the chance to try their hand at fly tying, kick sampling and bug identification with the local Salmon and Trout Conservation branch, coarse fishing led by our regional Angling Trust development officer, and the opportunity to try out and play with a range of gear from top tackle manufacturers including Loop, Sage, Vision, Rio and Reddington.
The event will take place at Dilston fishery between Corbridge and Hexham on the main river Tyne and be completely free to all comers, save for the price of a coffee and sausage sand-which should they wish, from the barbecue (PLEASE NOTE BRING SOME CASH ON THE DAY FOR REFRESHMENTS).In short it should be a great day out with something for all and bringing your waders/wellies and a rod is very much part of it for those who'd like to get stuck in.
All activities will be up and running for a 10 am start and continue throughout the day but the welcoming address from local angler Robson Green and the first demonstrations will not begin until 11 am so no-one will miss out!
I attach a flyer which you can share with your members but final running order/details are to subject to change on the day.
Access The beat is accessed from the A695 at Widehaugh. A white post with a red top marks the turning from the A695 and anglers are advised to beware of overtaking traffic whilst turning right off the main road onto the track which leads down to the Widehaugh railway crossing at the entry point to Dilston Fishings. For those who know the fishery you will be aware that there is a railway crossing near the entrance and the potential for any waiting cars to block the road above it should there be a backlog. We are working with network rail to ensure that access for all is first of all safe but also slick and for that reason we would like to stagger entrance on the day. For that reason alone could I ask that you request the following times are adhered to by your members if at all possible? Please note we will not refuse entry to anyone but sticking to these suggested times will certainly make the experience a lot more enjoyable for everyone involved - both stewards and visitors. The access road and parking is suitable for a normal car with care but low riding sports cars are not recommended! Visitors will need to keep on the designated road at all times. Please follow the advice of the volunteer stewards on the day who are there to help and will guide you to the riverbank and parking area..
