MUCH NEEDED RAIN then GREAT FISHING on FEDERATION WATERS

September 12, 2022

MUCH NEEDED RAIN then GREAT FISHING on FEDERATION WATERS.

After an extremely lengthy dry spell that has seen all rivers severely depleted, last Thursday and Friday finally brought the rain all anglers on our waters have surely craved.

Once the conditions had settled and the water clarity improved several anglers grasped the opportunity to finally get their net wet.

Among the catches reported were Rob Huggins with two salmon of 16 lbs and 6 lbs from the Wires pool on the River Tyne on Saturday on a Junction Shrimp fly.

On the Coquet it wasn't until Sunday when angling conditions became more favourable with numerous catches on the Federation waters.

Some of those among the fish were Tommy Cleghorn with a fine salmon of 8 lbs at the County Pool at Rothbury.

At Pauperhaugh, a couple of good sea trout were taken on the fly.

Further down at Felton, Joe Clarke managed 3 sea trout in the range of 3 lbs to 5 lbs 8 oz on the fly in his first hour and lost another good fish later in the day. Another angler reported a salmon of 12 lbs at Mouldshaugh corner.

At High Park, Leigh Final netted a nice 4 lbs sea trout whilst his father Paul, managed a beautifully conditioned salmon estimated at 10 lbs, both caught on the fly.

Congratulations go to all those anglers who have caught this weekend and with more rain forecast and a good head of fish, hopefully the rivers can maintain a reasonable level so more anglers can benefit.

Tight lines to all those venturing out.
