MAY 2026 ANGLING UPDATE

May 26, 2026

Angling Update

As we near the end of Spring, angling conditions have been challenging over the recent weeks, however; Paul Gilliard got off the mark in fine style last Thursday evening with a cracking 7 lb salmon from the Coquet, netted by young Ryan Mooney, who'd earlier landed a nice whitling himself.

Whilst sightings, and catches, of salmon have been sparse there are now a few in the the system and with the water's warming we should be seeing a run of sea trout imminently.

Whilst migratory fish have been elusive, we have had a number of good brown trout reported. Among them, Ryan Wilson had an early season 2 lb 2 oz fish, Mark Reed had a stunning 1 lb 12 oz specimen and Shaun Hedley had a nice fish around the 1 lb 8 oz mark. With the current high temperatures due to ease later this week we are forecast some rain over the catchments which will hopefully improve conditions for you all.

As is sometimes the case at this time of year and combined with the current conditions, should any anglers observe any diseased fish, may I take this opportunity to request that you report it to me (Keith, Head Bailiff, Mob: 07712220592) as soon as possible please. If you could include location, date, time and a photo if possible it would be gratefully appreciated.

Tight lines.
