Head Bailiff Notice
As from 12.00 on 27-08-22 the prohibition of fishing on the River Coquet from the Swan's Neck (Warkworth beat) to the estuary waters on the Tidal beat (as per Rule 5h) is lifted and anglers are welcome to fish these waters. This will remain under review until we get the much needed water we are all desperate for.
*(Reminder - a salmon/sea trout permit is required for tidal waters without exemption)*
Although the levels remain low, after regular monitoring there is a significant improvement in water temperatures along with a slight improvement in flow rates through the fish pass at the upstream end of the tidal waters. This, along with the forthcoming high tides should allow easier passage for our migratory fish. We are aware that throughout these extreme low water conditions fish are still moving through the system but with the continued low oxygen levels anglers are reminded of the need to reduce the stress on any fish caught as much as possible and to practice careful handling where catch and release is concerned, the best practice if possible being to keep the fish in the water whilst unhooking.
The Federation fully appreciate your co-operation and thank you for your understanding whilst these restrictions have been in place.
We wish you well and tight lines for the remainder of the season.
