FEDERATION WATERS PRODUCING - DESPITE CONDITIONS

Although we've had several good spells of rain over the last week or so the rivers unfortunately haven't benefited with almost every drop being soaked up by the bone dry ground. In despite of this we have noticed that fish are still moving in the low water levels, more so with any drop in pressure and this has resulted in several good catches over recent days.

On the River Tyne we've had a couple of sea-liced salmon caught on the Ovingham beat, one of 15 lbs and a superb specimen of 12 lbs caught by George Sneddon, both fish taken on small flies.

The River Coquet never fails to surprise even at prolonged low water levels with fish reported caught throughout the system from Warkworth to Pauperhaugh. Anglers among the fish were Tommy Cleghorn with a fine salmon of 11 lbs, Chris Watson with a 8 lbs salmon and Paul Robson who had a great Sunday morning, managing to land two salmon of 12 lbs 8 oz and 11 lbs. The dedicated night time anglers have also managed a few sea trout with John Jervis landing three nice fish and Gordon Black landing a couple all around the 3 to 4 lbs region. (Reminder: A salmon permit is required to fish an hour after sunset).

On our River Till water Robbie Purdom landed a fine sea trout of around 4 lbs with a couple lost and many more fish seen.

With rain forecast over the next couple of weeks we hope conditions improve significantly as we understand the frustration at the seemingly constant low levels but as has been proved, by adapting to the conditions fish can be caught and our waters contain an abundance of some of the finest wild brown trout on offer so any cloud cover could give you the opportunity to land one of these fine specimens.

We wish you all well and tight lines to all Federation anglers on our waters.
