A Cool, Cool Summer

July 22, 2024

A Cool, Cool Summer.

Whilst river levels have remained relatively low the recent rainfall has provided the occasional lift which, along with the periodic autumnal conditions has kept the fish moving, always welcome at this time of year, and provided very decent sport. Since the last report 18 salmon and 24 sea trout have been reported from our Coquet waters and 4 sea trout from our Till beats.

Several anglers have managed impressive salmon catches and among them are John Jervis with a 14 lb fish on a small shrimp pattern, Dale Green on a roll again with four fish up to 13 lb along with three sea liced sea trout, Paul Gilliard with four fish up to 11 lb, David Lee with a couple up to 9 lb, Mitchell Fawcus also with a couple up to 9 lb and Tony Dunn, who added to his tally with a 3 lb 8 oz specimen grilse in stunning condition.

Several anglers, too many to mention, have managed some fine sea trout catches in the 3 to 6 lb range with John Nelson landing an 8 lb fish on a rainy evening last week.

All fish reported so far have been in excellent condition and fresh runs have been consistent which hopefully bodes well for the rest of the season.

Tight line to all those out on our waters in the coming days.
