Specific Rules re: 2026 Handbook 
River Tyne – Bywell Fishery – Lower Beat / River Till Fisheries

SPECIFIC RULES 

The Federation has, through formal agreement, acquired approximately 1 mile of additional fishing on the lower stretch of the Bywell Fishery on the River Tyne. This stretch extends upstream from the current upper boundary at Merryshields to the upstream side of the Bywell Bridge and is strictly north bank fishing only. Similar to the River Coquet tidal stretch and the River Till, a Salmon permit is required to fish these waters (indicated by the broken yellow lines on the Angling Maps) and the following specific rules apply. Failure to comply with any of these specific rules will result in the angler losing their right to fish these waters and may result in the angler’s permit being revoked.


River Tyne – Bywell Fishery – Lower Beat

1. A Salmon permit is required to fish these waters. 2. All relevant Rules and Regulations apply to these waters. 3. There are no restrictions on the number of anglers per day on this stretch, but each Permit Holder must inform (via: S.M.S. or WhatsApp) the Head Bailiff prior to commencing fishing these waters. The message should contain the following: Bywell – Permit Holder’s name – Permit number. 4. Catch returns are a vital part of the agreement and the Head Bailiff must be informed as soon as practicably possible or, by the end of that day at the latest, of any migratory fish catches. Species and weight of fish, method of catch and a photograph (in accordance with the Federation’s photograph policy see: GENERAL) of the catch should be provided. 5. In the event of one of our anglers catching the first fresh fish of the season from the Bywell Fishery the angler should retain the fish in the net in the water and immediately contact the Bywell Fishery ghillie (Steven Keeney – Tel: 07835550517) in order that the fish can be verified, recorded and photographed. The Head Bailiff should then be informed as per Rule 4. 6. Ample car parking is available along this stretch. Anglers should park with care and consideration and not obstruct any openings or passing places. A Federation parking card must be displayed as per ANGLING RULES: Rule 7 k. 
7. Fishing on a Sunday on this beat is prohibited.

River Till – Turvelaws Beat / Weetwood Beat. 

1. A Salmon permit is required to fish these waters. 2. The River Tweed Commission Angling Codes (available via the Federation website) apply to these waters and anglers should familiarise themselves with these codes prior to fishing. 3. There are 6 rods available on the Turvelaws beat and 2 rods available on the Weetwood beat at any one time on a daily basis (also see Rule 4) throughout the season and are only available by making prior arrangements with the Head Bailiff. 4. No fishing is permitted on any Sunday throughout any year. 5. Catch returns (including nil returns) must be reported by the angler to the Head Bailiff by the end of that day’s fishing at the latest. These should include species and weight of fish, method of catch and beat.
