The First or the Fiftieth - They're all special.
With the water fining down nicely after a good lift and then the recent spate, sport has been good once again for many of our anglers on the River Coquet with 65 salmon/grilse and 17 sea trout reported since the last update.
Some impressive returns have been among them with Billy Toland landing six salmon in a session whilst Graham Southam had 4 salmon to 15 lb in a session and followed that up the next day with a 5 lb grilse. Leigh Final had some fine fish, a salmon of 17 lb 4 oz among them and George Nicholson had a 14 lb 4 oz salmon among his catches.
Several of our visiting anglers made their trips worthwhile with Victor Bonutto landing a fresh sea trout and a salmon, a delighted Ian McGregor landed a fine salmon whilst regulars Peter Thomas and Matt Bradbeer have also been among the fish.
Other anglers to have caught, and there are a few are: Gordon Black, Gerard Rogers, David Laurie, Paul Gilliard, Willie Hunter, Jonas Pettersson, Peter Robinson, Tony Dunn, Mike Dodd, Nicky Barrs, Neil Tate, Barry McGeeney, George Sneddon, Mick Robinson, Mark Reed, Robert Bell, George Nicholson jnr, Mariusz Baruch and John Jervis. Thanks go to you all for your updates and sincere apologies if anyone has been missed.
It goes without saying of course that Dale Green has once again added to to his impressive tally and whilst he was landing his 50th of the season several dedicated trout anglers who have recently taken up salmon fishing were landing their first ever salmon. The warmest of congratulations go to Richard MacDonald (4 lb 8 oz), Gavin Mallaby (12 lb), Andy Timson (12 lb) who then followed that up with his second, a fish around the 14 lb mark this weekend and our very own Dennis Hetherington (7 lb), all of whom have created their own lifetime memories. Well done to you all. Creating his own lifetime memory was 12 year old Ryan Mooney who deserves a special mention once again after landing his first salmon of 10 lb 8 oz whilst fishing alongside his proud Grandad, Colin, to add to his first sea trout earlier this season. Well done to you both for your dedication and effort and will hopefully inspire any youngsters who wish to take up angling.
As we enter the final few days of the season and after a slight lift in the water we hope for continued good sport and wish all our anglers the best of luck and tight lines.
