WEEK ONE - THE SEASON BEGINS

Week 1

The salmon season made a welcome return to Federation waters on Wednesday with what was without doubt, the best turn out of anglers for many years. Several new permit holders along with the many familiar faces were keen to wet their lines at the White Posts on the River Coquet in search of the prized first fresh salmon of the season. 

With conditions reasonably good and the water holding a touch of colour at a moderate level, many anglers gave it a great effort but the only fish to come to the net were very well mended sea trout kelts caught by John Robertson, Mark Reed and further upstream, Chris Watson.

On the River Tyne there was a report of a kelt caught at Hagg Bank before rising water levels put a halt to the fishing.

The rest of the week continued in a similar vein and so the search goes on for that first spring salmon.

Over the coming week there is little or no rain forecast but with the tides increasing, hopefully we may have fish entering the system.
