2026 Permits and Rule Changes

December 30, 2025

Permits and Rule Changes

With the new season just over four weeks away and permit applications now being accepted, we'd like to take this opportunity to inform anglers of the requirement to read and understand the Rules and Regulations prior to the upcoming season. This requirement is agreed to when making your application and will inform you of the rule changes as well as the introduction of 'Specific Rules' in relation to our new water at Bywell along with our River Till waters. You will also receive an email with your application regarding this matter and with work underway in preparing the new handbook all these rules will be available to you shortly.

To give anglers notice prior to their permit application, the rule changes affect Brown Trout permit holders whereby trout fishing is now fly fishing only at all times (if you want to spin a Salmon permit will be required) and as from 16th June a separate Coarse permit will be required for coarse fishing on the River Tyne. These rule changes have been made necessary due to a very small number of non-compliance incidents.

In each year, and in accordance with the relevant seasons, Salmon permits expire on 31st January (this allows for Grayling fishing on the River Till throughout December and January). Brown Trout permits expire on 30th September (Day permits are available for Grayling fishing on the River Till throughout December and January). Coarse permits expire on 14th March.

Should any further clarifications be required regarding these or any other matters, please contact the Head Bailiff.
